In the beginning of the semester I shared information regarding the senior class project. Keep in mind that a NDA was signed so generic information will be shared. I am happy to say that our team is doing a wonderful job with the class project. As account executive, I strive to lead and show by example. I always arrive early, dress professionally and direct the team in the right direction.
This past week we met with the professors to make certain our team was on track. The meeting went much better than planned and the professors really favor the direction. They told us that it is much different than any other team, in a good way. Our team has began to conduct quantitative research, which has been really exciting. This means we have to cold call the individuals to schedule one-on-one personal interviews to collect the data needed. So far we have completed over five interviews and the data supports the research hypothesis!
As a leader, I have learned that it is not only important to lead by example but to take a step back and let others lead. One of the gals in the group has a great sense of leadership skills and sometimes I feel like she doubts herself. The other day, I handed off a leadership role to her. I lead by example and she observed.I coached her on the task and worked together before she ventured on her own. The time came for me to take a step back to allow her to be a leader.
It felt great to ‘pass the torch’ and take a step back to see the results. What she did not realize was that this process increased her confidence. I gave her a sense of confidence by ‘passing the torch’ and she gained confidence by coaching another team member. This has helped our team work better together and trust each other. The entire process of the senior class project has educated me a lot on the practices of formulating a campaign. I cannot wait to do these kinds of tasks in the career world!
Until next time,
Jenn L.
